WJHL-TV aired its first television broadcast on October 26, 1953. Hanes Lancaster, Jr. and Sr. and Jay Birdwell founded the station. WJHL-TV operates in the heart of downtown Johnson City and is led by General Manager Paula Jackson. For more than 68 years, our staff has been dedicated to reporting local news that matters to you, and your family. For many decades, WJHL has operated as a CBS affiliate. In February 2016, we added ABC to our family on our second channel. In the Fall of 2019, our team entered into a new chapter with a new state-of-the-art studio!
